Back in August of 2010, a mapping contest for Team Fortress 2 was announced by Valve and TF2Maps.net. Three traumatic months later and I had "completed" my map. There were about 50 entries in the final tally, out of hundreds that started the contest. Alas, I did not win. It might actually have been the biggest waste of my time ever. And that is saying a lot.
